Abstract

Achyranthes aspera is a common plant found throughout India. Before the introduction of modern medicines, disease treatment was entirely managed by herbal remedies. It is estimated that about 80% of the world population residing in the vast rural areas of the developing and under developed countries still depends mainly on medicinal plants. It is quite obvious that the plant is widely used in traditional medicinal system of India and has been reported to possess hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antitussive, antifungal and also used to check wounds healing and antibacterial properties. Achyranthes aspera is a very important plant for its large number of medicinal properties as well as medicinally important chemicals like ecdysterone, achyranthine, betaine, pentatriaontane, 6-pentatriacontanone, hexatriacontane and tritriacontane. The plant shows many pharmacological activities like, anti-allergic, cardiovascular, nephroprotective, antiparasitic, hypoglyceamic, analgesic and antipyretic. The present article gives an account of updated information on its phytochemical and pharmacological properties. The review reveals that wide numbers of phytochemical constituents have been isolated from the plant which possesses activities like antiperiodic, diuretic, purgative, laxative, antiasthmatic, hepatoprotective, anti-allergic and various other important medicinal properties. For the last few decades or so, extensive research work has been done to prove its biological activities and pharmacology of its extracts.

Abstract

Time perception encompasses different subjective time experiences, like: (1) interval length (duration) estimation, and (2) subjective passage of time judgments, defined as the perceived speed of time passage. This study aims to investigate and clarify the impact of task difficulty, temporal relevance and hedonic interest on both interval length judgments and subjective passage of time judgments. Another aim of the study is to investigate whether interval length judgments and subjective passage of time judgments are related. The results of the present study indicate that task difficulty and temporal relevance have a significant impact on interval length judgments. In terms of their interaction, the results show that when the task is simple, a high temporal relevance leads to interval length overestimates. Another major finding of this study was that subjective time passage judgments seem to be affected by the same factors as interval length estimation. In other words, results indicate that both temporal relevance and level of task difficulty have a significant impact on subjective time passage judgments. Also, we found a significant correlation between interval length judgments and subjective passage of time judgments, indicating that a longer interval estimate is associated with a slower perceived time passage. The results of the present study are discussed in terms of the attentional models of time perception.

Abstract

Major and trace (including rare earth)element abundances, mineral compositions and Nd and Sr isotopic compositions have been determined for the mafic dykes (classified as basanite) and gabbro of the northern Island belt of Kutch rift basin. These are petrographically and geochemically distinct but have similar mantle normalized trace element patterns Measured⁸⁷Sr/⁸⁶Sr ratios in the mafic dykes vary from 0 70428 to 0 70593 &Nd(i) varies from 0 27 to - 6 5. The isotopic compositions are broadly similar to that of Mahabaleshwar flows of western Deccan volcanic province. The geochemical character suggests the influence of fractional crystallisation in the evolution of the basanite dykes. The parent magma was enriched in K, Ti, Na and P suggesting derivations from an enriched source during the early phase of lifting Palaeomagnetic data on the dykes show the presence of both normal polarity direction at D_m = 338°, I_m=-47° and reverse polarity direction at D_m=14l° and I_m=34° indicating multiple intrusion Virtual Geomagnetic Pole(VGP) for the basanite dykes differs from Deccan Super pole suggesting a magmatic event older than the main Deccan eruption.
